The GIST is looking for a knowledgeable, creative and enthusiastic sports fan to be an integral part of our social media and content team. You will have an impact on all areas of the business, having the chance to collaborate with folks across our team while also being trusted with a great deal of responsibility and autonomy.

The GIST is a fan-first sports media brand that's shaking up the male-dominated sports industry. We're reinventing the dialogue around sports by providing equal coverage to women's and men's sports. Whether you catch our newsletter, podcast, or social posts — our fun, digestible content is for all types of fans.

Our vision is to become the go-to source for sports for underserved fans. Since launching in July 2018, we’ve grown our community to over 1M GISTers across North America, have worked with brands like the NBA, State Farm and Nike.

We’re looking for a Social Media Coordinator to join our team and provide coverage of our organic social media content during an exciting time in the sports calendar. You’ll be responsible for owning our evening and weekend coverage, including creating designs, captions, and posting all content to our Instagram, TikTok, and X channels. Reporting to our Manager of Social Media, you’ll use your time management, prioritization, and content creation skills to create and post a high volume of content that meets our brand standards.

Role: Full-time, 6-month contract with potential to extend. Hours will include evenings and weekends. Because, you know, sports.

Reports into: Social Media Manager

Location: Toronto, ON (though open to remote applicants located in Canada)

Key objectives:

  • Working closely with The GIST’s content team to support and execute on our social media strategy
  • Creating compelling and engaging content across all of The GIST’s social media channels (Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook)
  • Retaining and growing followers across all social channels, while driving newsletter subscribers and podcast listeners
  • Focusing primarily on Instagram and TikTok, creating content (on camera and off), engaging with other accounts and finding trends to use across our platforms

Core responsibilities:

Content creation

  • Source, curate and create fun, useful, engaging and innovative content that will also drive audience growth and brand affinity while meeting The GIST’s editorial standards
  • Stay up-to-date on the sports and social world, selecting what content to post and how best to post it using The GIST’s brand voice
  • Quickly assemble edits and implement notes/feedback
  • Respond to/make creative for real-time sports moments
  • Have the foresight to preemptively plan and execute original evergreen content
  • Create personality-driven, social-first, short video content
  • Support The GIST’s growth strategy by brainstorming and developing creative for paid social media advertising

Community engagement

  • Provide excellent customer service and engagement with our GISTers through responding to comments and DMs
  • Comment and interact with other Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts
  • Stay on top of changes/ideas our GISTers are communicating and share/implement accordingly

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of digital content creation experience is required
  • Strong understanding of TikTok and comfortability speaking in front of a camera is required
  • Base line understanding of all sports is required; deeper knowledge of sports such as softball, volleyball, and lacrosse is an asset
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects is required
  • Experience working in a newsroom, social media role, or sports industry is an asset
  • Experience working with a brand voice is an asset
  • Undergraduate/college degree/diploma in communications/media, journalism, sports management or a similar field
  • The successful candidate should be comfortable with evening and weekend hours, as these are a requirement of the role
